This event establishes a stand in the Stand worksheet from one of the several sources depending on the regional variant setting. Regen events are essentially Establish events that link new trees to an existing tree list. They may be used to create complex stands of varying species and age composition.

Tree List

Trees are either read from external sources (the Stands workbook or separate files) or they are simulated according to guidelines or assumptions provided by the user. In the first case the user must acquire tree list data and prepare it for use within the model. In the second case, simulation of trees depends on inputs that are provided by the user. To assist the user there are also some very crude lookup tables that will give some idea of the characteristics of trees based on some more familiar stand characteristics like age, site, and species for different cohorts or layers of trees in the stand. The following list shows the source of trees or tree list parameters:

In these dialogs, the user provides or looks up information about the stand. This information will be used to determine the stand and tree characteristics when the event is executed as part of a Crop Plan. The specifications for the tree list are set by the user and used to generate an initial stand (in the Stand worksheet) for which growth is to be simulated.

Some dialogs may not appear for different regions (Variants). For example the BC VEGINV dialog will only appear when the Variant BC is in effect.

The settings provided as input have a MAJOR impact on the simulation of stand growth. The analyst must always be watchful that the input settings are appropriate and reasonable for the stand conditions that are to be simulated. Poor initial conditions may also trigger errors in the result predictions.
